National transit card in the works for England
The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has revealed plans to implement a national smart card for public transportation on English trains, trams and buses, according to railnews.co.uk. Codebench receives certification
MaxID has announced that the OMNICheck product from Codebench Inc. has met all requirements and satisfactorily completed Immigration Customs Enforcement certification requirements on the MaxID iDL500 handheld multi-modal TWIC reader. OMNICheck is a mobile validation software application that verifies PIV, TWIC, FRAC, and CAC credentials over the reader’s contact or contactless interface. GSA approves credential holder

NXP et al. deliver contactless transit system for 2014 Olympics
NXP Semiconductors announced that its MIFARE Plus contactless microcontroller has been chosen by the Russian city of Sochi to power the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system of its ground transportation network during the 2014 Winter Olympics. CEA-Leti demonstrates new communication technology for smart cards
French researcher CEA-Leti announced that it has demonstrated a contactless, high-speed interface for smart cards. Leti has created a prototype of a complete phase modulation system, a reader and a card, that now achieves speeds of 6.8 Mbit/s.
